i've finished the book. 'The Gospel According to Mark' and 'Brodie's Report' are both solid stories from Borges, but still the focus on morality just does not land with me the same as his works with a focus on metaphysics do.

i can see why people love this game so much, but it's VERY 2011 first person puzzle platformer. visually quite nice, but so many of the puzzles are just so so so tedious, especially the amount that require waiting for slow platform alignments and making really janky jumps.

an interesting time, the culmination of one of the most stressful weeks of my life. the surgery was a success and my quality of life is already drastically improved. i'm logging this here as it significantly impacted my ability to check out new media + it being a total surprise meant i had little time to check. i played a lot of Angeline Era on my steamdeck (so glad i decided to bring it) and i watched Bocchi the Rock and a lot of AGDQ. the Twilight Princess speedrun was a real treat. my roaming allowance started to run out by the third day or so, and as such i was pretty limited in being able to find new music or videos to watch.

february was a very gaming oriented month, including a host of delightful singleplayer games in addition to the long overdue reintroduction of multiplayer games in my life. my utmost recommendations to drag your friends together to play free, weird multiplayer games. i was hoping to get around to more movies this month, but i'll just have to make up for it later!

this month also featured my band Pronoun Circle's second gig. it was such a delight to play with Girls Rituals & Lainxoxo.

i continued to chip away at both Angeline Era and Skyward Sword - both phenomenal adventure games.

Cortisa Star is an incredibly exciting name in music currently and i'm a huge fan of her work - however i found this show to be a let down. her setlist was unusual (choosing to feature the same track twice!), very few of her songs seem to break the two-minute mark, the crowd was insufferable - made worse and encouraged by the stage banter, and the real energy killer for me was how little of the lyrics were performed live! despite this i remain excited to see how her music develops.

an album that didn't leave a strong impression on me upon first listen, but has very much grown on me since. the falling sand visualiser is so inspired. OPN retreads past sonic ground, however the intense depression that undercuts his discography seems reframed through the eyes of someone who is doing better; Tranquilizer captures the melancholy of getting through depression.

a really nice thing to revisit with friends for gamenight. it feels very primitive as far as RTS games go, but the simplicity makes it a really solid choice for newcomers. i do wish the way production queues was overhauled, as it stands, building more facilities feels pointless beyond having a backup of select buildings.

SM64: A New Journey

played in sm64 coop. really excellent level design, lots of fun to move through and doesn't overstay it's welcome. has some trickier jumps than i'd expect for an easy hack, but nothing insurmountable. good difficulty level overall. i'm feeling like the controls for sm64 are starting to click for me. definitely excited to play more romhacks.

after a second session to finish up the last level and the bowser fight i can say that i really enjoyed this hack. the difficulty curve is nice, but i do think some of the jumps in the final bowser stage are really unforgiving for new players - especially since it takes design cues from the vanilla bowser stages, but without the stacked vertical layout to save the player falling out of the level when missing a tricky jump. that said, i feel after a patience testing hour, i am now a substantially better sm64 player.

as winter finally loosens its grasp on this island, i had another gaming oriented month. this time i was largely wrapped up in some graphic design client work, which left me short of time and energy to explore as much as i had hoped. slow progress on Angeline Era and Skyward Sword continued, with me reaching the final stretch of the latter.

work on music has also continued in full swing. there should be some exciting releases & performances in the future.

i have never played pokémon platinum before (i will always be a gen5 girl) so checking this out has been super exciting. originally started playing with an older version of moemon but managed to do save file surgery to swap to the newer vanilla+ version of the hack. currently still weighing up which version i prefer, the QoL features + expanded roster is welcome (especially for my goal of building the most denpa team i can), but i feel the newer art lacks some of the charm the original had. the original moemon sprites felt very animist demiurge, whereas the new ones feel like the fae.

it's been a long time since i have kept up with the SCP Wiki, so i decided to do a late night scroll to kick off the month. i was fortunate to stumble into the 8,000 Dead Rats hub almost immediately. i am a huge fan of the speculative future & extremely dry, bureaucratic take on fantasy. fascinating to see a canon where The Foundation is really only a footnote. the use of different GoI formatting & small typeset inserts lend so much to an already incredible narrative.

whilst only being a 'fragmentary passage' of pt3, Junior Ghosts - Premorphic Drift is in my eyes the strongest entry to the anthology so far. laser focused, deeply cutting & relentless; Weard forgoes the messier improv nature of pt2 (which was to pt2's detriment) in favour of extremely tight scripting. a treat to see in cinema. incredibly excited to see the rest of pt3.

my favourite film from TITE. a total subversion of expectations, so much so that it has left me needing to implement a spoiler feature for this page. if you were to watch one film from this line-up, make it Divine Hammer (& do yourself a favour and go in blind).

after a day of feel-bad programming on behalf of TITE & my general tendency to be squeamish, i was initially going to skip Divine Hammer and get some much needed rest - but i am so so glad i stuck to James from TITE's recommendation to catch this film. after an intense opening detailing a discord server of gore enthusiasts culminating in two women meeting with the plans to film one of themselves killing the other - the M. Sisters throw a total left-hook as the movie spins off into a heart-warming tale about the joy of DIY filmmaking with your friends. an invigorating flick that has left me feeling so encouraged to pick up a camera and try make films myself.

i'm unsure what kind of fae mood came over me that motivated me to pick up Terraria again, but it has been a real treat. on a whim i decided i wanted to play exactly one content mod (a playstyle that is far too slept on in the age of sprawling modpacks) and gave Gensokyo a shot. the combination of Terraria and Touhou is a no-brainer, the new bullet-hell boss fights against Gensokyo's residents are a perfect fit for Terraria. very excited to play more of this, i just need to remember Terraria's early-midgame item progression after all these years.

having been a long time fan of Tomodachi Life on the 3DS - but not wanting to replay it given it's comp-het design - i was overjoyed to see this get released. great mii editor, wonderful mechanics & killer charm; having feared a New Leaf treatment of the Tomodachi franchise, it's a relief to see this game is a substantial improvement over its predecessors.

i have been watching through this series either with breakfast or as a last thing to unwind before bed. Etho really struck on the form early and everyone has been playing catch up since. an extremely calm, thoughtful and well-made series - he really succeeds in showcasing the emergent mechanics of the game. Etho's building style has always been one of my favourites in the game, and it's super nice to watch him develop it over the course of the series.

Fez

started and played briefly. i may revisit this properly this year, however i may have had my fill of playthroughs of Fez. despite this, it remains as one of the most gorgeous games made.

Rhythm Heaven

while hanging out in Dublin with a dear friend following the show, i had some time to kill and my DSi to hand. Rhythm Heaven was always a childhood favourite of mine, but being a lanky kid with hand eye coordination issues meant i was playing on hardmode; revisiting it now, especially with a background in music has made it much much much more approachable.

such a fun & novel presentation for a rhythm game, just crammed full of so much charm. i do wish the chances to go for perfect clears weren't so limited.

also once again reaffirmed that the DSi/3DS are the peak of handbag game consoles.

Backrooms

what a treat to catch in cinema. having been a long-time fan of Kane Pixels' work & his Backrooms series i was equal parts excited & apprehensive when i heard A24 picked him up for a feature length Backrooms flick.

great casting, incredible set design & i loved the psychological focus of the movie. it is nice to see that they really drilled into the human aspect of the backrooms as a space.

a recurring entry in this list as i have decided i wish to get decent at competitive mario kart wii. after retro rewinds addition of the new characters and unlockable mii racer outfit 3 at 30k VR, i feel this is my current target. expect updates on my progress from here on out.
